Therapy for Eating Disorders

DASC offers outpatient therapy for eating disorders, and for those who are looking for support due to struggling with their relationship with food and/or their bodies. Eating disorders do not discriminate based on age, race, gender, or sexuality; and affect people from all walks of life.

At DASC, we utilize various Cognitive Behavioral Therapies such as Radically Open Dialectical Behavior Therapy (RO-DBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) to support our clients in the treatment of eating disorders and cultivating body image flexibility. We define body image flexibility as learning new ways of coping and relating more flexibly to the parts of ourselves that struggle with thoughts and feelings about our bodies, which we believe are normal experiences to have in a world that places such harsh and often unrealistic expectations on bodies and appearance. We recognize that there is no one-size-fits-all treatment for eating disorders, and will take our time to assess and get to know each person and their treatment needs and goals.

We strongly believe in a Healthy at Every Size (HAES) approach, and our clinicians work inside of an anti-diet framework. We understand that weight cannot be a sole determinant of health, and recognize the many genetic, cultural and contextual factors that affect and determine someone’s biology and weight. We recognize that we live in a world that is steeped in weight stigma and weight bias, and strive to create a safe and supportive space for our clients and their bodies. We believe in an anti-diet and “all foods fit” framework, and recognize the harm that diet culture perpetuates on our society and our relationship with our bodies, and the vulnerabilities that it creates towards eating disorders and disordered eating.

Our DASC therapists who treat eating disorders have undergone extensive training regarding the complex components and challenges that those with eating disorders face. We are honored and humbled to work alongside our clients in exploring and rebuilding new relationships with their bodies and with food, and in creating new ideas and ways to define and pursue ‘health’ outside of weight and weight loss.

DASC offers both individual therapy, as well as supportive group therapy, for the treatment of eating disorders and building of body image flexibility.
