Tony Bates is a therapist at the Depression and Anxiety Specialty Clinic of Chicago. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma and the University of Michigan Law School, and later went on to earn his Master’s degree in Social Work from The University of Chicago School of Social Service Administration, with a concentration on clinical practice.
Mr. Bates has experience working with adults in a variety of settings. Prior to joining DASC, he completed a clinical internship at Heartland Health Outreach working with individuals with a chronic illness. He has experience treating individuals struggling with depression, anxiety, panic, OCD, PTSD, life transitions, and interpersonal problems.
Mr. Bates takes an empathic and collaborative approach to his work with clients. He tailors his therapeutic approach to meet the individual needs of each client, drawing on his training and interests in empirically supported theoretical frameworks: Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). He also incorporates specific evidence-based interventions, such as Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) and Mindfulness. He is committed to lifelong learning and participates regularly in continued training and consultation.
