Kerry Curran has 10 years of clinical experience and currently is a therapist as well as Director of DBT and Intake Services at the Depression and Anxiety Specialty Clinic of Chicago. Mrs. Curran graduated from Eastern Illinois University with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. Mrs. Curran obtained her Masters in Social Work at the Jane Addams School of Social Work at the University of Illinois at Chicago with a concentration in mental health. She is a Certified Diplomate with the Academy of Cognitive Therapy (ACT).
Mrs. Curran leads a DBT group at DASC focusing on interpersonal effectiveness, distress tolerance, mindfulness, and emotion regulation. In her individual work Mrs. Curran utilizes evidenced based practices, particularly Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). She specializes in treating anxiety disorders including OCD, generalized anxiety, social phobia and specific phobias in addition to personality disorders, depression, trauma, bipolar disorder, grief/loss, emotion dysregulation, self-harm, and interpersonal issues.
Mrs. Curran believes that mutual collaboration and respect are the cornerstone of a strong therapeutic relationship. Mrs. Curran believes strongly in being a lifelong learner and the importance of staying informed on the most up to date research and interventions in the field and as a result receives regular consultation and training. Mrs. Curran also supervises and trains students and other therapists in providing empirically supported treatments. Mrs. Curran is a member of the Anxiety and Depression Association of America and the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies.
