Staff Therapist-Lakeview Office
Becky Martin is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) at the Depression and Anxiety Specialty Clinic of Chicago. She graduated with her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology with a minor in Sociology from Illinois State University (ISU). Ms. Martin then continued at ISU to earn her Master of Science degree in Clinical-Counseling Psychology. Ms. Martin strongly believes therapy is a collaborative process of validating clients where they are currently at while simultaneously giving them the skills to move forward and achieve their goals. She strives to create a foundation of trust and understanding for each individual client that allows them the space to explore, grow, and move towards a life they find fulfilling.
Ms. Martin has experience working with a variety of mood, anxiety, and personality disorders in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Throughout her time at ISU, Ms. Martin also volunteered for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline answering crisis calls and training new volunteers. She has worked individually and in groups with both adolescents and adults using evidence-based practices such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Exposure with Response Prevention (ERP).
Ms. Martin has completed advanced training in the treatment of insomnia using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT-I) through the University of Pennsylvania. CBT-I is recommended by the American College of Physicians as the first-line treatment option for chronic insomnia in adults. Ms. Martin has also started intensive training in Radically Open Dialectical Behavior Therapy (RO-DBT) directly from the founder of this treatment, Dr. Thomas Lynch. RO-DBT is a new evidence-based treatment for disorders of overcontrol; research shows RO-DBT has been effective in the treatment of a broad range of disorders including chronic depression, obsessive-compulsive personality disorder, treatment-resistant anxiety, and anorexia nervosa.
